No Other Mother...

I'm sorry it's been so long since my last post. I've been very busy with family matters, including the birth of a new grandson! And also, helping my mother as she gains strength recovering from health issues.

Helping to take care of my mom, has strengthened my deep appreciation for her even more than before. She has such an incredibly strong will, and a never ending youthful attitude and spirit. It's hard to imagine anything getting her down for very long. She is a trooper, and she continues to march on in the face of some very serious setbacks. I'm proud to be her daughter.

As I think about upcoming Mother's Day, I can't shake the feeling that, although I'm glad that we celebrate a day just for moms, this year, it seems like one day to honor her is just not enough. I wish I could do more for her everyday, she deserves it.

So to all the mothers out there, and to my mother too - Happy Mother's Day!

If it wasn't for my mom, I could never have accomplished my dream of writing and creating. Her strength and courage has been my guiding light.
Thank you Mom, I love you.

This coming year I have lots of fun designs and book projects on my to-do list! I've already gotten started on a few! This past year I fulfilled one of my goals to have my book, When I Build with Blocks, available in hardcover! I'm hoping that I will have a few more of my books in hardcover as well, before the end of the year.

Oodles of Noodles to dry!

We had lots of fun at summer camp painting pasta to make necklaces. But what do you do with all the wet painted pasta so it can dry? Place them on another noodle - a pool noodle that is! With so many kids, (around 80) and so many  pasta noodles, I needed to come up with a way to keep their pasta from rolling away while they waited two days for us to meet again, to string them. Buying individual foam pieces would have been costly, so one day while I was at the Dollar Store checkout, I noticed the pool noodles outside the front window on display. It got me thinking, that those were made of foam, I wondered if they would work. So I purchased just one pool noodle, took it home and cut it into 100 pieces (steak knife works best with teeth). I inserted 5 toothpicks in each ring and set them on the tables when the kids walked in. 

At first they thought the craft was the blue noodle rings, but once they got started painting the pasta and putting them on the little drying racks, they went to town, and made some really impressive creations. We used acrylic paint and q-tips to add dots and details. The drying racks worked perfectly for our needs and they had a great time!
