For Dad... update

Back in June of 2011, I posted a poem I wrote in honor of my Dad after he passed away in 2004. I had posted a version of the poem, written in the present tense for Father's Day.

However, I have gotten some requests to offer the original version, written in the past tense, so that other people may also use it, in order to honor their own Dads, who have also passed away.

It is an honor to post the original poem that I wrote for my Dad and read at his funeral. I'm sure he would also be honored, if it could be helpful to others. Although I wrote it with my own Dad in mind, I believe it is general enough in content, for any loving Father.

Thanks Coach!

Sports are such a big part of our lives. We send our kids to play, we watch them on TV, but how much do we really appreciate our Coaches? They work hard to teach our children teamwork, and commitment, while still having fun. I wrote this poem for all the coaches out there, and for those of you who would like a new way to say thank you. This poem can be found on a variety of gifts in the Sports - Coach section my Zazzle store; NikiClix Creations.

Light - by William G. Aitken

If you ever want to read something different, something with a unique writing style, something that will make you think, make you wonder, and make you feel good - than Light is it.
This time around, William G. Aitken, has thrown caution to the wind and wrote from his instincts and heart. This book is an amazing example of what a writer can do without the constricts of form, rules and regulations to hold him down. It is different from other works of William's which are mainly thriller, horror, and other genres, that we all love to see.
This work proves what a diverse Author he is. Once you have read this, and other works of his, you will see how broad, and how promising this new young Author is, that has exploded onto the scene.
When I read this book, I did not know what to expect. It's rich with descriptions and fast moving plot that will take you on a wild ride.
Every time I read one of William's books I am pleasantly surprised, and I can't wait for more!
Light, is available at Amazon.

School Days!

Many people are gearing up for back to school this weekend. So get out and enjoy the barbeques and weather if you can, summer will be over soon.

Those of you who know me, know I hold a special place in my heart for the paraprofessionals who work in our schools. Their dedication and commitment should not go unnoticed. They provide the backbone of the classroom, and an extra heart for the children to turn to. Although I am a Teacher Aide myself, the designs were created with all of my colleagues and friends in mind. I know how much of ourselves we put into our work everyday, and I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of people.

I have dedicated some designs to the appreciation of Teacher Aides, Teacher Assistants, Special Education and more, and I am happy to say, that there are many people from the US and abroad, who have shown their support to their own classroom staff.

Here is a key chain I created to appreciate all the great Teacher Aides:

Me-Sponsible!

A few years ago, I came up with the term;
Me-sponsible:
The act of being responsible to ME -  for the benefit of my health, happiness and well being.

I put it on to t-shirts and mugs and different gifts on my online stores. Since then, I have seen my quote used in different blogs around the internet, and I'm glad that people are finding it helpful in their own personal health quests. That was my intention.

Recently, I've discovered even more ways for me to apply the term Me-sponsible for myself, than I originally thought. At first, it was a way to keep my focus on my health quest without letting the influence of others, or taking care of others first, get in my way. But now, I've discovered how much more important it has become for me to keep that focus. I don't want to let the cat out of the bag too early, but I will say, I will be writing a short true memoir account of my story of Me-sponsible, and where I go from here.

I hope to have it published on Amazon Kindle and other ebook devices before the end of the year. Along with Ginny's Sacrifice, a paranormal fictional novella, and a few other paranormal fiction short stories.

In the mean time, here is a keychain with my design and quote:
Have a great day!

Vacation!

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since my last post, sorry about that. Today I'm officially on vacation from my day job. So now I can really focus on my writing and designing, and just doing what ever I want. I'll be visiting my 95 year old Grandmother soon also. She is a gem. Lots of good stories come from her wisdom and experience. It's amazing how much can be acquired in the span of 95 years. I've been very lucky to have her still with us.

The weather is beautiful, great day for going for a walk. I come up with my best ideas when I'm surrounded by nature.

Have a great day!

First Draft

Hi all, my first draft of Ginny's Sacrifice is done! Yea! Alas, there is still much work to be done. But I have to say, the first draft is always my favorite because you never know where the journey will end up. So now comes the task of checking and rechecking and all that fun stuff. I'm hoping that by the end of the year (or sooner) that Ginny will be ready for publication.

In the mean time, I will be working on some short stories, while I'm letting Ginny's story rest for awhile. I've started one already, and so far, so good.

I'll keep you posted!

Ginny's Sacrifice...Coming Soon!

Ok I'm getting excited! I'm now five chapters into my new book! It's a fun time travel story that I hope to have finished in the next few months and published with Amazon, Kindle. This has been such a fun journey for me. I have lots of other ideas in the works also for future books. I can't wait to get started with them. Writing has always been a passion of mine along with designing, and with ebooks, I can get them out to the public in a jiffy.

In the mean time, here is a sneak peak at the cover, I couldn't resist!

Coming soon...

Happy 4th of July!

Lucky you if you were born this day. Today is a day to celebrate our Independence! Have a great day!

For Dad...

My step father, Gary Aitken, was one of the greatest men I have ever known. He passed away seven years ago, but left behind wonderful memories and lots of love. This poem was written in honor of him. I hope it can be passed along to all the wonderful Dads out there! Happy Father's Day!

An inspirational poem for your Dad, comes on many gifts. The picture will take you to gift shop.

4th of July, Dating and Sparks!

In honor of the Fourth of July, I think this is a fitting time to talk about that exciting, fun, wonderful, thrilling, crazy making, awe inspiring.... spark!

Ok, I love fire works just like anyone else...but when it comes to dating, what and where and how does that elusive spark come into play, and better yet, how do you keep it lit? Is it a fantasy, is it real and how can I find it? These are the questions that women and men have been asking since the first lightning strike started the first forest fire.

I used to believe in the "spark", I did. And part of me still does. But as time goes on and I've met more and more people, I'm beginning to believe that, yes you can feel a spark for someone when you first meet, but to have a real spark, a real passionate fire burning love for someone, now that takes time. Just like smoldering coals in a fire pit, it's a long slow process. Not one that just explodes in the air with frenzy and excitement. If you want sparks that will last, the real ones, the ever lit torch of the Olympics, you actually have to make it happen. You have to get right down on the ground and hit the flints together and blow the smoke, and keep watch all night long to make sure it stays lit. And then one day, you will look at each other and realize there was a fire burning all along.

If you're dating, and you've found someone who fits your personality, and gets your jokes, and is fun to be around....don't give up if the initial spark isn't there. Don't throw in the towel just because the sky didn't light up when they walk into a room. People say they want long term relationships, but are off and running as soon as the first spark doesn't catch fire. I ask those people...are you looking for the flame of a candle or a bomb-fire? Because a candle flickers fast and blows out, but a bomb-fire takes much longer to build and can last a very long time.

I for one, am building coals in my fire pit that will last a very long time. I see now how the sparks are fun, but they are not long lasting. When you're out watching fireworks this July 4th, count how many seconds they last in the air. Then go to a bomb-fire and watch how many logs people throw on to maintain it and how many hours it will last.

My Grandparents were married for over fifty years. When I had my first divorce, my Grandfather said to me..."You kids don't know anything about commitment." He was right. We were in it for the sparks and fireworks, not the bomb-fire. And now my dear 95 year old Grandmother said to me just the other day..."If a man is looking for sparks, light a firecracker under his a##!" God love her!

But she is right too. She knows that the sparks are fleeting, and true love is built on friendship, laughs and hard work. The things that keep the fire burning for years!

Happy Fourth of July!

Five Generations Happy Mother's Day

When Mother's Day comes around it has so much more meaning to me now that I'm a Grandmother too. My Grandmother who will be 95 years young next month has been an inspiration to me my entire life. She has been the rock in our family through thick and thin. And now with the birth of my Granddaughter last year, we are five generations strong! I've been put in the unique position to be a Granddaughter, and a Grandmother, at the same time. I feel very blessed. So on this Mother's Day I'd like to make a special wish to every Grandmother and every Granddaughter, and every Mother in between, that your day is full of love and happiness!
As I've stated before, most of my designs are made from the heart. This one is for all the Grandmas in the middle like me!
Happy Mother's Day!

Proud Daughter!

As I've been working on writing for the Kindle, my Mother, Carol Aitken, has also been having fun writing too. She has finished a short story and published it! It's a sweet story about a little girl in the 1940's who observes her Mother, Grandmother and Aunts as they toil at a produce factory. A poignant glimpse of what life was like for women back then and their strong family ties.
Here is the link to her story:

Way to go Mom!

Soon to come - Another up and coming writer in the family, my brother - William G. Aitken.
A fabulous young author, who writes incredible stories of paranormal, horror, thriller, mystery and more!
I'll keep you posted!

Still Learning

Day two creating this blog. I've added some gadgets and played around with the colors, still more to do till I'm satisfied. I'm sure it will be a work in progress.
Worked late writing last night, book coming along nicely. (At least I'd like to think so.) The title eludes me still. Have a lot of possible titles written down, but I'm sure when I'm done the right one will jump out at me. This is unusual for me, because in most cases, the title will come to me first and I can work off that. Hmmm, something to think about.
I'll be updating my online gifts shops also soon. Different holidays bring new ideas for me. Earth Day is coming, and if you have an Earth Day birthday, check out this design. It also comes on many gifts.

Have a great evening!

Welcome!

Writing has been a love of mine for as long as I can remember, but the funny part is, when I sat down to start a blog - I didn't know what to write! What I can say today, is that I'd like to talk mostly about designing and writing and just anything creative. I'm the type of person who likes to try new things, that's why I've ended up with so many interests.

I have a few print on demand shops where I sell my designs on t-shirts and gifts. This has turned out to be a fun adventure for me. Sometimes I'll incorporate something from my life, or current events into my designs. (Like my collection of weight loss and fitness designs.) Or more recently, the disaster in Japan has led me to create designs that hopefully are inspirational.

Most of the time, and I say most, my designs have extra meaning for me personally. But some of the time, a cigar is just a cigar, and they are just plain silly or fun. In any case, having the ability to create something from nothing and make a little extra money on the side has opened up all kinds of possibilities for me.

I've been a poet since early childhood. And now I have the ability to share my poems in the form of greeting cards and gift boxes and the like. That makes my day whenever one of those is sold! My newest adventure will involve self publishing for the Kindle. Currently I have two books in the works, one; a collection of original inspirational poetry, the other; a fun paranormal time travel story. Like I said, I have many interests, it's hard to pick just one!
